Global Switch, the leading owner and operator of wholesale carrier neutral data centre space in Europe and Asia Pacific, awarded Icon Stage 1 of its new data centre. The project was a joint venture between Icon and M+W Group. Strategically positioned on the western edge of the Sydney Central Business District, the world class Sydney East Data Centre was designed in conjunction with The DEM Group to provide highly resilient technical space and power solutions to its customers. The new facility adjoins the existing Global Switch building and it was delivered over three separate stages. The new data centre comprises a six storey data centre facility with 12,500 sqm of technical space and a gross floor area of 24,000 sqm of world class critical infrastructure services. Sydney East is a leading example of an environmentally sustainable data centre and has an Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Rating. The data centre offers reconfigurable power and cooling distribution, variable speed fans and free air cooling systems, low energy CRAC Units and facilities to harvest rainwater and to recycle water for use in the cooling systems.
