Reaching Practical Completion for $134.6M Modern Aged Care Facility

August 7, 2025

The $134.6 million 150-bed development sets a new standard for aged care facilities, delivering best practice care in an environment that promotes independence, privacy and includes dementia-friendly features.

Reaching practical completion (PC) at Kingston Residential Aged Care Development marks a significant milestone resulting from meticulous planning, design, and construction efforts, transforming the Victorian Health Building Authority’s (VHBA) vision for modern residential aged care into a reality.

Delivering this project ahead of program is testament to the hard work from Icon’s diligent project team who proudly championed a diverse workforce, inclusive of 23% of employment hours on the project completed by priority jobseekers, 12% of employment hours completed by apprentices, trainees and cadets, with 4% of this cohort being women. Committed to leading social procurement initiatives that deliver impact, the project also contributed $5.5 million towards indigenous-owned, social and disability enterprises.

Icon also collaborated with VHBA to partner with Holmesglen Institute to provide students from the women-only Certificate II in Construction Pathways with practical hands-on site experiences.

Now that the centre is complete, it will serve as a valuable community asset catering to residents with complex needs, including those with dementia, providing much-needed public sector aged care for residents surrounding the City of Kingston.

Residents look forward to moving into their new homes where they will enjoy the privacy of their own room with an ensuite, supported by communal facilities grouped into households that mirror a home-like environment.

This project further reinforces our strength in the health infrastructure sector, joining a long list of projects successfully delivered including Royal Melbourne Hospital, Royal Womens Hospital, Calvary Aged Care and Epworth Hospital Eastern Flats Redevelopment.

Congratulations to the entire project team for their efforts and thank our subcontractors and project partners for their invaluable contributions with special mention to:
