Racing to secure Project Win at Albert Park
June 12, 2025
The Icon Group has secured a major project win with the announcement of head contractor for the Albert Park Pit Building redevelopment.
Upgrading the famous pit building will provide much-needed infrastructure to ensure it is fit for a world-class spectacle during the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix. The new facility will include 14 garages, a VIP hospitality space to hold 5,000 Paddock Club guests, a state-of-the-art race control, administration and media centre.
Set to become a valuable community asset all year round, the sports and recreation facility will provide seven new indoor sport courts and improved clubrooms for local clubs that use the outdoor fields.
“Being appointed as head contractor for the Albert Park Pit Building is a proud moment for Icon and we look forward to enhancing the iconic sports and recreation precinct to enhance the event experiences for F1 fans and deliver a great community asset for locals,” said Icon VIC Director, Al Munro.
Initial works are underway, with demolition to begin after the 2026 Formula One Australian Grand Prix and construction set for completion in time for the 2028 race.
The project is being delivered by Development Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government.
Icon looks forward to working with Development Victoria and project partners Woods Bagot and AECOM to deliver an asset that reinforces Melbourne’s position as the events capital of Australia.
This project joins a long list of community infrastructure projects undertaken by the Icon Group.
