Icon, Reeves International JV to deliver Naha Birthing and Urban Health Centre

July 23, 2024

Icon, together with JV partner Reeves International, are pleased to announce the award for the contract for the construction of the new #Australia-funded SBD250m/AUD45m Naha Birthing and Urban Health Centre in East Honiara, Solomon Islands.

This important project for the health of Honiara’s population officially commenced with a ceremony attended by Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister, the Hon. Richard Marles MP, and Solomon Islands Minister for Health and Medical Services, Hon. Dr. Paul Popora Bosawai.

Mr. Marles highlighted the significance of this facility, stating, “Once complete, this centre will see the very best of care provided to this community and Honiara. We want this new health centre to make a real difference to the lives of the people of Solomon Islands, now and well into the future. The facility will be built to Australia’s high standards of quality.”

The joint venture is committed to involving local workers in the project wherever possible and listening to the voices of the community and health workers who will use this new facility. The Naha Birthing and Urban Health Centre will set a new benchmark for healthcare in Solomon Islands, providing new mothers and mothers-to-be with the very best pre and post-natal care. This will not only give the next generation of Solomon Islanders the best start possible but also ease pressure on the National Referral Hospital.

Designed to withstand earthquakes and other natural disasters, the centre will be delivered with high-quality equipment and trained staff. Australia will also support the handover and maintenance of the facility to ensure its longevity.

Once complete, the centre will offer first-class birthing, pre and post-natal care services for women, as well as eye, dental, pathology, x-ray, ultrasound, and pharmacy services. A large general-purpose room will provide a flexible space for public and community health initiatives.

Construction will be managed by Australia’s Solomon Islands Infrastructure Program and is expected to take 24 months.

Icon and Reeves are proud to be delivering this vital project and looks forward to making a positive impact on the health and lives of the people in the Solomon Islands.
