Following the January 2022 announcement of construction company Icon’s appointment by property developer Riverlee to deliver the $550 million Seafarer’s development, construction has officially commenced.

It was our pleasure to join City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp and the project team at a ground-breaking ceremony to mark the beginning of this high quality project.

Designed by renowned, multi-award winning architect Fender Katsalidis, the project is Australia’s first 1 Hotel and Melbourne’s first international hotel-branded residences, with its bold, sculptural composition set to be an inspiring addition to the Melbourne skyline.

Once completed this luxury project will feature a combination of residential, hotel and hospitality, in what is set to be the largest private, landmark construction project in Melbourne since the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are honoured to be working with Riverlee and to be a part of delivering a city-defining project like Seafarers. We look forward to bringing Seafarers to life and working on this historic location on the riverfront.” said Evan Byrne, Icon CEO.

Seafarers is as exclusive as it is beautiful, comprising just 123 luxury riverfront residences with the five-star service and amenity of a luxury hotel, and the iconic Melbourne lifestyle at your doorstep.

Conveniently located within the Northbank precinct, between the Melbourne CBD and Docklands, lucky residents of the 18-storey development will enjoy the perks of inner-city living combined with the convenience of unlimited access to all the services and facilities of a luxury hotel.

Riverlee’s development director, David Lee, expressed the significance of the partnership with Icon’s construction team in marking a significant milestone for the next wave of Northbank as a destination in Melbourne.

“Icon shares our vision for the precinct – for it to be a high-quality, sustainable and an exceptional place to live and visit. We are excited to begin 2022 with this appointment, along with the positive uptake in sales since restrictions lifted in Victoria. This shows confidence in the owner-occupier apartment market and the willingness of buyers to embrace new lifestyle opportunities in the post pandemic landscape,” says Lee.
