Celebrating Women in Construction
March 8, 2022
Icon is proud to support women’s invaluable contribution to the construction industry, not only within our business but also within the wider community.
Several of our regions including Victoria, NSW and ACT recently celebrated the NAWIC Awards for Excellence and we were thrilled to have a number of nominees and winners selected as part of the Icon Group.
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) is an Australian, not-for-profit organisation established in 1995 with a mission to achieve 25% minimum female participation across the construction industry by 2025.
At time of writing, Icon is on average 18% female. This is across roles including project and site teams, not limited to traditionally female office-based roles. Key management roles that are held by women include our Human Resources Manager, Sarah McDonald and National Façade Manager, Eunice Lee. While it’s wonderful to see women in these important roles at the Icon Group, we are committed to continually improving in all areas of diversity across the business.
NAWIC is led by a team of passionate volunteers who strive to help champion and empower women in the construction and related industries to reach their full potential and achieve their vision of an equitable construction industry where women fully participate.
In working towards their mission, NAWIC provides a forum for its members to meet and exchange information, ideas and solutions. They also offer their members an opportunity to expand person and business networks, maintain awareness of industry developments, improve skills and knowledge and make a contribution to other women in the construction industry.
The NAWIC Awards acknowledge the successes of women working in a typically male dominated construction industry, by publicly recognising the accomplishments, hard work and dedication of all nominees and Award winners on and off the construction site.
We’d like to congratulate the women at Icon who were nominated for NAWIC Awards across all regions. The NAWIC nominees for 2021 include Project Manager Louise McKinnon, Design Manager Nicole Anderson, Project Coordinator Brianna Beuzen, Project Coordinator Kayla Tanesvki and Commercial Manager Nadine Trainor. We’re particularly excited to celebrate Icon Cadet Jasmine Clingan and Senior Design Manager Nolita Ryan’s achievements, with Jasmine winning the ACT Student of the Year Award and Nolita who was a runner up for the ACT Business Woman of the Year Award.
“The industry is becoming increasingly accepting of women across all skill levels. To any women who are passionate about the construction industry and are contemplating a career in construction, I say go for it!” said Louise McKinnon, Icon Project Manager and Victorian NAWIC Award Nominee.
