This high quality integrated fitout for one of New Zealand's premium tertiary education providers AUT, was seamlessly undertaken concurrent with our base build works for the Wakefield Street student accommodation project. Key to the project’s success was the early co-ordination and planning undertaken with the base build team which enabled a clean handover of the fitout areas and efficient construction of both projects thereafter.
The fitout of the 5,000sqm ‘cold shell’ space comprises a ground level fitness centre, a sprung timber floored multi-use sports court and retail spaces. The mezzanine level incorporates fitness spaces, a viewing gallery of the sports court and a further retail area. Level 3-5 includes the changing facilities, health and wellness centre with the administration facilities, office space, and other university student related functions on the upper floors
The super structure of the AUT areas use a combination of reinforced concrete vertical structure with deep steel beams and metal deck floors to maximise column spacings to provide the large spans required over the sports courts and between the two ajoining student accommodation towers. The installation of the building services and acoustic panels at a high level in the basketball court required precise coordination. The specialised timber sports court flooring and veneered plywood wall linings required close coordination and alignment.
The building provides a warm and welcoming space for students to socialise, relax, and exercise. Overall, it is a great asset in the heart of the campus and CBD as well as promoting student health and well being.
